Bon dia, yen di alegria.

My name is Pearl Dumfries, also known as WATRA.

Next to having an educational background in Social Pedagogy and Social work, I am a Multilingual Vocalist, a Songwriter and a Musician.

Born in Amsterdam, being raised in Aruba and having Haitian-Surinamese roots I have always been surrounded by culturally rich environments. This inspired me to write multilingual lyrics at a young age(11). Intrigued by Afro-Caribbean, Soul, Jazz influences and more. Growing up in a musical household a variety of melodies were overflowing as I created new songs accompanied by my acoustic guitar. It did not take long before I started writing my first few serious singles in my journal at the age of 13, as I mostly performed them live afterwards.

“Songwriting gave me comfort and a creative understanding of my emotions as a young kid.”

From participating in school talent shows to performing original work with my then called high school band 'Siete Caminos' we got selected to be part of the The Life I live Festival: Skooltainer in The Hague(2014). Throughout the journey of performing live I shared my dedicated original work in various small and larger events and festivals, such as The Bon Bini Festival Fort Zoutman(2017-2018), The Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival(sept 2017), Aruba's Soul Beach Music Festival(2023) among others.
My passion for music has led me to further my interest in composing and recording music. The latest being two personal compositions for the documentary series The Blue Lizard Effect and a trio album ‘Identidad’(2024). Fueled by passion, I aspire to continue developing songwriting programs for (youthful) social communities, to empower healthy emotional intelligence.
